I think you still need a memory card Edit: Answer below has a point. Most PS3s don't even play PS2 games. The 60GB does and I think the 80GB plays some. If it is these and has no memory card slot assume it saves to the hard drive. Same for PS1 games. Otherwise you either won't be able to play a PS2 game or it will have a memory card slot
